Welcome Ames Families to the 2017-18 school year!
If this is your first year at Ames Elementary school, we would like to welcome you to our school and community. If you are a returning family, we know that you are excited to begin another year at Ames. As a local PTA unit, our mission is to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth. We are looking forward to continuing the working partnership we have with our amazing teachers and staff, the District 96 Board of Education, and our administration. Our ultimate goal is to assist in providing an excellent learning experience for our children. We sincerely hope you share this belief and will make it a priority to become a member of our Ames PTA.
We encourage every family to join our PTA for many reasons:
- By joining the PTA, you show your child the importance of their education.
- By volunteering and getting involved, you help create positive change and help us work towards solutions that benefit every child in our school and community.
- You will get to know other parents, families and the teachers and staff at Ames.
Throughout the year, Ames PTA hosts numerous events at the school. Many of our events are family-focused and free to students and their families, such as Family Movie Night, Family Heritage Night, Family Reading Night and our annual Family Dance. Other events and assemblies are organized and hosted by PTA volunteers and include our science fair, science-in-a-bag, school assemblies, field trips, an end-of-year talent show, Pizza with the Principal, and so much more.
In order to offer these wonderful programs, Ames PTA offers various fundraisers throughout the school year, including:

- Scholastic Book Fair
- Charleston Gift Wrap
- Restaurant Nights
- 5 B’s Catering
- Box Tops for Education
- Spirit Wear
- Parents Night Out – Flying High
- Other fundraisers
This year, Ames PTA will host the Fall Festival, an event for the entire Ames community to come together and raise funds for the incredible Cultural Arts program. The event is held every other year as the funds raised cover two years each of our Cultural Arts curriculum: a week-long artist-in-residence, all-school assemblies and field trips. The auction normally consists of items and services from local businesses and families, classroom artwork and teacher/school experiences. The success of the event depends on our tremendously committed parent volunteers.
All of this takes time and work from our volunteers. We all have different skills, interests, and resources that are needed to help students and staff at Ames. Some of us can volunteer in classrooms while others might head up or join a committee that is an integral part of our efforts. We all want the very best education and experience for our children, and that is drives us each year. Even one hour of time is worth so much to our wonderful school. Becoming involved will be worth it!

PTA E-mails
PTA members are automatically enrolled in our email communications called FeedBlitz. You may opt out at anytime. Even if you are not a member of the PTA, we encourage you to sign up for our communications. Go to www.amespta.org and enter your email into the “Newsletter Signup” field on the homepage.
Meetings
We hold monthly PTA meetings and try to offer evening meetings for working parents. Come and meet other Ames families, get to know our teachers and staff, and learn more about upcoming events and ways you can help our students. Our next PTA meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:30 PM in the Ames art room. Family movie night will run during our meeting. For a complete list of PTA meetings, click here.
