Riverside Police Department and District 96
Important Safety Reminders

It is great time to revisit traffic and parking safety procedures and expectations. In past years we’ve witnessed some potentially dangerous incidents in the drop-off/pick-up areas. All of these incidents can be avoided by all drivers following these traffic/parking expectations:

* Please use extreme caution while in the presence of children in the area of the school.
* Please drive slowly and refrain from cell phone use while driving through the drop-off/pick-up zones.
* Please DO NOT leave your vehicle while in the drop-off/pick-up zones.
* If there is a need to go into the school or visit with anyone inside the school, please park your vehicle legally and walk to meet your child.
* Do not ask/expect your child to walk in front of another car to get into your car. This is extremely dangerous.
* Please help the school staff and po lice officers by being extra diligent in following these procedures.

Student safety is our utmost goal at the Riverside Police Department.

Thank you in advance for partnering with us to make sure that all District 96 staff, students, and parents are safe!

Readers R Leaders Update

Posted Feb 23, 2010 | Category: In the News

Congratulations to our readers!   As of today the school has read just over 510,000 minutes!  Many of our students read over 500 minutes in the January and we are doing great.  The school goal of reading 1,000,000 minutes this year is in reach!   The students enjoyed their ice cream party last week as a reward for their reading during the months of December and January.

Remind your readers that if they turn in their sheets for February they will be getting a “ball” ticket that can be used to throw one ball at the dunk tank during our end of year dunk-tank-party!  Keep reading so that everyone gets a chance to dunk a teacher or staff member!

February forms are due March 4th so please mark your trackers!

Attention 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade Ames Parents: Special Meeting Addressing Success & ISATs on Monday, February 22nd at 7pm in Multipurpose Room

Posted Feb 21, 2010 | Category: Meetings, Reminders

Principal Lieggi and  members of the 3rd-5th grade faculty will be holding a special meeting for parents of 3rd-5th graders offering helpful strategies for ISAT testing.
This meeting is to be held Monday, February 22nd at 7pm in the Multipurpose Room.
The purpose of the meeting is to help parents prepare their child(ren) for the ISATs.
Parents and teachers collaborating to help our children excel in school is the ultimate goal.
This meeting will address how parents can:
  • Support our kids through the standardized testing process
  • Identify skills needed for the ISAT testing
  • Assess what the children are expected to demonstrate when answering test questions

Success in test taking, such as the ISAT, offers students critical life skills with long-term benefits (i.e., problem solving, critical thinking, etc.).

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Lieggi at 447-0759 or at lieggic@district96.org.

Important Message from Principal Lieggi

Friday, February 19, 2010

Dear Parents,

I want to make you aware of a water main replacement project on Northgate Road.  This project is making it challenging for our walkingNorth Riverside families who cross 26th Street on Westover Road to get to Ames School.

I have spoken with the Riverside Police Department, North Riverside Police Department and the Riverside Public Works Department regarding this project and our concerns about the safety of our families when walking to and from school.

The Riverside and North Riverside Police Departments recommend that our North Riverside families cross at the Des Plaines Ave. & 26th Street crosswalk rather than Westover & 26th Street for the next couple weeks.  Once the Northgate Road phase of the water main replacement project is completed they will be moving to Northgate Road & Des Plaines Road to do work there.

I have asked the Riverside Public Works Department to notify me of the exact date when work will begin in the Northgate Road & Des Plaines Road area.  Obviously, our North Riverside families will want to resume crossing at 26th Street & Westover Road at that point.

I will notify you of this date when I am notified.  If you have any questions or concerns about this precaution please feel free to call me at school (708) 447-0759 or email me at lieggic@district96.org

 Sincerely,

 Colleen Lieggi

Principal

Ames Elementary School
