Election Day Volunteers Needed!

Posted Oct 31, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

Hello Ames Parents-

Because Ames is a polling place, the general public will be entering, voting and exiting the school next Tuesday, November 4th. Once again, our intention is to route voters to the back door to enter, then directly to the gym and out the gym exit door to the parking lot. In the past, we have had volunteers to “man” both the front and back doors to keep the traffic in-line and stop anyone from roaming near the classrooms where our children will be. This voter traffic pattern is a safety procedure that’s been successful; however, strong volunteers are needed now more than ever. The bake sale will be at the back door so we’ll need 7 parents to work an hour each by the front door and make sure voters walk around to the back.

8-9a Tom Reeze

9-10a Carolyn Hughes

10a-11a Karen Dachota

11a-12n

12n-1p

1-2p Lorraine Meyer

2-3p Denise Rehder

If you can help during one of the times during lunch, please reply directly to me 447-0436.

Thank you, thank you!
Debbie Alm

Yearbook Photographers Wanted!

Posted Oct 28, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

The Yearbook Committee will be producing a yearbook again this year and we’re looking for photographers! If you’d like to take photographs at various events, please contact us. If you don’t want to be an “official” photographer, you can send us any pictures you have from school activities this year, especially from the Holiday Festival, Halloween, and the First Day of School. We can’t guarantee that we’ll print all the pictures but we’ll try our best to print as many as possible.

Like the yearbook last year, it will be a black and white, soft cover book with a color cover, about 50 pages long. Order forms will come home sometime in May. If you have any suggestions for the yearbook this year, please contact the Yearbook Committee. There will be class pictures from Lifetouch for each class as well as candid shots for each class. There will also be pages from the following events at school:

First Day of School
Grandparents’ Day
Halloween
Veteran’s Day Program
Holiday Parties
Holiday Festival on December 16th
100th Day of School (Kindergarten)
Science Fair
Math Night
Cultural Arts Programs
Artist in Residence
Educational Programs
Tropical Days
If you have pictures you’d like to share or any questions, please contact us.
Thank you!

ART GUIDE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Posted Oct 16, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

The goal of the Art Guide Program at Ames School is to nurture our studentsʼ creativity and appreciation for the arts by having volunteer parents present artists and their art and to reinforce key ideas through hands-on activities.

Each grade has four artists that are to be presented each school year. Ideally, one artist should be presented in each of the following four months: October, November, January and February.

The program is straightforward. The research is done for you already. The binders with materials by artist are provided for you and are located in the storage room under the bleachers in the gym. Should you have an interest in volunteering for this program, further information will be forwarded to you to assist you with preparing for your presentation.

This is a unique way to be involved in the classroom and one the children enjoy and appreciate.

For those interested in volunteering as an Art Guide for the 2008-2009 school year, please contact Lisa Muldowney at 708-447-3264
